Top Five Tips To Beat The Winter Blues

We can all get a bit down in the winter, what with the miserable weather and seemingly permanent darkness. If you're struggling to get your daily dose of sunshine, exercise, fresh fruits and veg, then your festive spirit could be in danger of dwindling. The run up to Christmas can get hectic, so it's important that you don't forget to take time out for yourself. Feeling blue? Red in the face? Green in the gills? Think about the colours you're wearing and whether they are injecting the right kind of energy into your day. Calm your nerves with tranquil turquoise, or perk yourself up with a splash of pink. I have a favourite mustard yellow coat that I love to wear during the winter because it can brighten up the dullest days. My great big royal blue infinity scarf has a serenity about it which soothes my soul. My burgundy corduroy trousers warm me up both in body and spirit. Don't drown yourself in black and grey this winter. Have some fun with colour! Start you...

It's the most wonderful time of the year.....

I feel like this year I am extra excited about Christmas... Yule.... Winter Solstice.... New Year..... New Moon.... all of the above! I wrap the whole lot up into one festive bundle, because to me it's all about new beginnings and celebrating the growing light of the sun. It is terribly dark in Dorset right now. The sun goes down at 4pm, and the little sunlight there is has to fight its way through layers upon layers of knitwear. It's cold. I know that right now it is only going to get colder and darker. But after the Winter Solstice, the days will actually increase in daylight hours, and by the end of February, the temperature will actually be getting warmer! And there will be little flowers! And buds of fresh leaves on the trees! All we have to do is hold on and wait it out... ok, it's not like we're in a blizzard, it's doubtful we'll get any snow before the new year, and even then it's just a light dust on coastal towns. But when the beach is glitteri...

Preparing for February

If you've seen my latest videos, you will have noticed that I'm bundled up in hat, scarf, coat, etc. The weather is wet and windy, with storms raging across the country. Still, the temperature seems to be quite mild. I expect the weather is going to get colder, and hopefully we'll have some snow soon! The beach looks amazing when it's covered by a fluffy white blanket. It never lasts very long but it's so ethereal when it happens, I really am looking forward to it. You might be mistaken for thinking that the shortest day of the year ought to have been the coldest day of the year, but this isn't so. The temperature takes some time to cool down, and so there is something we call a "seasonal lag". It's only after the Winter Solstice that we begin to experience the lowest temperatures. In fact, January and February are the coldest months of the year in England. And so the night of February Eve can be thought of as the middle of the coldest t...

Turning the Wheel

This is just to let you know that you probably won't hear a lot from me over the next week or so. This is because I'm in the process of moving home. It's odd, I've been saying this all year, that I felt November Eve would be a big transition for me, with major changes in my life, and the closer I get to it, the more my life seems to be up in the air. It happens to be that my birthday is in early November, so this time of year is always a transition from one year to the next for me. It's at times like this that I think of our dark lord. Charge of the God, by Janet and Stewart Farrar  Listen to the words of the Great Father, Who of old was called Osiris, Adonis, Zeus, Thor, Pan, Cernunnos, Herne, Lugh, and by many other names: My Law is Harmony with all things. Mine is the secret that opens the gates of life and mine is the dish of salt of the Earth that is the body of Cernunnos, the eternal circle of rebirth. I give the knowledge of life ...
