Tattered Dreams

On New Years Eve I drew a card from the Enchanted Oracle. The card I got was not what I was expecting! This is what "Tattered Dreams" has to say:

"Something that you believed in and counted on has unraveled. A belief has ceased to be true for you anymore. A person has proven false. An outcome has fallen far short of the expectation. Whatever has happened, it has had reverberating effects in your world. It is as if the foundation has been shaken and everything on it has fallen. It is unspeakably distressing, but it has happened nonetheless. It is fortunate, though, that the wheels that create dreams do keep spinning in spite of tragedies. And the same energy that may destroy something can also provide the energy to rebuild. And in the midst of tattered dreams, there is always a butterfly that will give you hope, if only you can see it."

This could not be more true!!! On New Years Day, my flat was burgled. I was unfortunate enough to be home when it happened. They came in and they smashed me in the face, took all my money and phone and whatever else was worth anything. I had to get stitches in my lip. I spent all night at the police station giving my statement. Now I am thinking about moving out of that flat and finding somewhere safer to live! But what I love about the card I drew, is the "butterfly" part. On New Years Eve my best friend gave me a charm for my charm bracelet... and it was a silver butterfly! Now every time I look at that butterfly charm, I remember to have hope for the future.

Here are a set of questions that Barbara Moore offers in her guide book Destiny's Portal, along with my answers:

1. Start with the base: what belief specifically was destroyed? How did it happen? Why did what happened actually destroy the belief?

The belief in safety and security within one's own home. I was burgled. The fact that intruders were so easily able to enter my home destroyed my sense of security.

2. If specific to a person or institution, has it affected your beliefs about people in general or similar institutions? What other beliefs are affected by this particular one being destroyed? Why and in what way?

I do feel suspicious when I see men of similar appearance. It makes me feel nervous. I worry about dangerous people wandering the streets.

3. How is your life going to be different now? Examine all the changes. Will there be positive and negative changes or only negative?

I am going to be more cautious. I am going to move to a safer location. The move will be stressful and difficult but I look forward to finding a better place to live.

4. Do you know other people who have experienced this or something similar? How did it change them? Do you think the change was beneficial or not? What can you learn from their experience?

I have spoken to people who have also been burgled in the past, and they respond that although it shook them up, they were able to recover from the incident. I think it will teach me to be more careful. I know that it is possible to feel at ease again.

5. What new beliefs can fill the hole left by the current loss? Take the time to imagine, one by one, what your life would be like if you implemented each one. Which imagined future is most appealing? Why? Can you live by that belief?

Although I have lost the joy that I once felt in my home, I am sure I will find a new home to feel joyful about. I imagine it will take time to settle in to a new place, but it will be fun and interesting. I enjoy decorating and making a place feel special. I think it would be better to cut my losses and move on than to continue living somewhere with the memory of that event lingering in the air.

I'm looking at properties, and I have a limited choice based on what is affordable, but I know the right one for me is out there somewhere.

The Dorset Ooser

A massive wooden head with snapping jaw mechanism, real horns and hair. Photo from 1883-1891.  The Dorset Ooser has possible connections to the horned costumes sometimes worn by participants in English Mummers plays. The etymology of Ooser is also disputed, with various possibilities available, but I think it's most likely the same as the Oss, a snapping skull paraded around during midwinter. The pronunciation is very similar, and it's simply a way of saying "horse" without pronouncing the h. These teeth-gnashing heads are also known as 'obby 'oss or hobby horse.  One use of the Dorset Ooser was to strike fear into villagers who were perceived as shameful. Usually the target was an unruly wife who had disobeyed her husband by raising her voice, scolding him, beating him, or cheating on him. A woman who was perceived as a bad wife was forced to ride backwards on a donkey or horse while the angry Ooser snapped his jaw at her and a crowd of villagers beat their...

A Coven of Witches

Last year I posted an advert on witchvox calling for local people who would be interested in starting a new coven. Interest has been slowly and steadily growing. I currently have a potential coven of 10 ladies. I'm excited in a nervous kind of way. I am not the most socially confident person. The thought of meeting strangers is quite terrifying. I don't know how many of the potential witches are really up for trying this. I always assume that out of all who express an interest, only half will follow through. Since last year I had a good feeling about May, that this would be the time for new projects. I've proposed a coven meeting in May and so far three individuals have said they would like to meet up. What I worry about is being able to meet everyone's needs, because I want the coven to work for everyone. I want clear communication, this is the most important thing, that we are able to share our ideas. I don't like the idea of a coven where a select leadership...

Partial Eclipse Full Moon in Pisces

The partial lunar eclipse happened when the moon was low in the sky, and there was a fair amount of cloud here. But after the eclipse, the clouds cleared and the moon rose over the rooftops. I had a bonfire lit and locally picked herbs to burn. Key words for this full moon were: - Compassion - Vulnerability - Imagination - Sensitivity - Avoidance - Procrastination  Questions and Considerations: The power of imagination and intuition. How can we follow our hearts and live a compassionate lifestyle? This is a time of great sensitivity toward the emotions of others, and a yearning to give comfort to anyone who needs it. This willingness to help can grow to feel like a great burden. This can lead a sensitive person to hide away from the world because they feel overwhelmed by the work that needs to be done. In this case, we really need to take care of ourselves, to become emotionally stable and focused on practical goals. The key is to find some small way that you can use your beautiful...
