Being a Thirty-something is Awesome

Oh hey there, it's been nearly a month since I last wrote here! Sorry about that, I've just been a bit busy! All month I have been thinking to myself... I should write something on my blog! But I don't know what.... I had my birthday! Yeah, that was fun! I turned 31, believe it or not ;) and I had saved up a little bit of money, so I wanted to treat me and my best friend to a little London trip. She lives closer to London than me, so I met her at Victoria and we had a pint of fruit cider in a nice looking pub. I think it was called Traveller's Inn. She gave me some super adorable presents, and then we headed down to Vauxhall to find our hotel. We popped open a bottle of bubbly to celebrate! We were planning on going out for dinner, but we had a band to go see and we heard that the queue was really long so we better get down there quick! We turned up at the O2 Academy in Brixton and found that you could buy hot dogs (which I didn't buy because I don't eat mea...

The World Tree and First Fruits

Well hello there, I think I have finally finished my World Tree painting. People ask me what it's supposed to represent. Well this is a symbol of connection. Alan Watts said the Universe is like a tree. Just as a tree produces apples, the Universe produces people. We are the fruit of the Tree of Life. We may think of ourselves as separate individuals, but we are all connected to the tree, everything that is anything is produced by this one tree, nourished by this tree, part of this tree. This is a symbol of Oneness. Around the tree you can see the full spectrum of visible light, each "separate" colour blending into the next, to show there are no lines to separate them, they are united. Humans are the same, we may categorise ourselves into separate groups, but those lines we draw are in our heads. On either side of the tree are two globes, they are supposed to represent the Moon and Sun, Night and Day, Winter and Summer. They are two sides of the same coin, equal and ...

Greetings

Hello everybody I suppose I better start blogging again! I was blogging over at wordpress for a little while but I just couldn't get to grips with the format. I like that this blog is easily linked to my other accounts, it gets automatically shared with my twitter and facebook, so that makes life easier. So what is this blog all about? Basically, this is my online diary where I can write about the stuff I'm doing. I often share pictures and things on my facebook page, but my blog enables me to go into more detail and write several paragraphs, if you're interested in reading more about what I do. What is the purpose of my art? When I was a little kid, I wanted to become an artist so that I could communicate the lovely things in my imagination with the rest of the world. I wanted to bring the imaginary to life. This is why I do what I do, because I believe in the importance of imagination. What you have in your head is not insignificant. The thoughts and images that po...

Personal Development

Well I have been writing this blog for about a year and a half now. Many blogs have preceded this one. Blogging is just a way for me to note down ideas and process information, it's something I do so I can reflect on things. I feel right now like I'm coming out of a tunnel, I can see the light at the end and it is drawing ever so close. The tunnel has been that shady time between November and May, when the northern hemisphere slips into slumber. It was the night of Halloween when I ended my 9 year relationship with Mike. We had a lovely time together, and he is still dear to me, but I had come to realise that we were not the best match. We didn't argue or fight, we were quite content with each other, but I don't think we ever really opened up to each other. We kept each other at a safe distance and enjoyed each other's company without getting too emotionally intimate. I want desperately for him to be happy. Then I met Tom, who was straight away open about his...

The Horned One

This image dates to 2600–1900 BCE in the Indus Valley. The image was discovered during the excavation of the Mohenjodaro archaeological site. The depiction is identified as Pashupati "Lord of Animals". Some authors argue that this was a prototype of the god Shiva. The Hindu deity Shiva is known as "the destroyer", the one who dissolves the Ego. He wears garlands of skulls and snakes to signify his primal cthonic nature. Shiva is often depicted holding a stag, a symbol of wisdom. He is worshipped as a teacher of yoga, music, and wisdom. Hindu iconography sometimes shows him sitting on a deer-throne and surrounded by sages receiving his instruction, other times Shiva sits in ascetic isolation. I find the image strikingly similar to that of Cernunnos below.  This 1st century image was found on the Gundestrup cauldron, the largest known example of European Iron Age silver work. It was found in 1891 in a peat bog near the hamlet of Gundestrup in the Aars pari...
